Spec requirement extractor (free)
Paste spec text and get every requirement as a row: clause number, the quoted requirement, standards and editions, values with units, and flags for the clauses that usually cost money in a tender. Pattern-based, free, and it never leaves your browser.

In short
Paste text from a customer specification, material requisition, ITP or datasheet. The extractor lists every requirement with its clause number, the standards and editions it calls up, values with units, and flags for costly clauses such as 3.2 certificates, witness tests, NACE and "no deviation". It is free, pattern-based and runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Your text never leaves your browser. Extraction runs on this page with fixed pattern rules: nothing is uploaded, stored or sent to an AI model.
The sample is a synthetic valve spec excerpt written for this page. Up to 200,000 characters.
How do I extract requirements from a valve specification?
- The text is split into clauses and sentences. Clause numbers such as 4.2.1, and sub-items such as (a), are kept with each row.
- A row is kept when it uses a requirement word (shall, must, required, to be, minimum, maximum, not less than) or sits under a numbered clause.
- Each row is checked against a fixed list of standards, units and risk patterns, and tagged with a category.
- You export the list to CSV or Excel and fill in your offer and status.
What does the extractor miss?
- It is pattern-based, not AI. Requirements written without trigger words or clause numbers are missed.
- It reads pasted text only: not PDFs, Word files, scanned pages or drawings. Tables may lose their structure when pasted.
- It doesn't compare the spec with your datasheets or decide whether you comply. Check every row yourself.
What does the output look like for a valve spec?
A worked example: the extractor run on PS-VAL-001, synthetic when this page was built. Load the same sample in the tool above to reproduce it.
Input: PS-VAL-001, synthetic, a ball-valve specification excerpt written for this page (no customer text). Output: 24 requirements, 13 flagged for cost or risk, and 12 standards and material specs referenced.

Frequently asked questions
Does my text leave my browser?
No. The extractor runs entirely in your browser with fixed pattern rules. Nothing you paste is uploaded, stored or sent to an AI model, and usage analytics (only with your cookie consent) record counts such as rows found, never the text.
How does it decide what counts as a requirement?
It splits the text into clauses and sentences and keeps those that use requirement words such as shall, must, required, to be, minimum, maximum or not less than, plus numbered clauses such as 4.2.1. Short numbered headings are skipped.
What will it miss?
Requirements written without trigger words or clause numbers, requirements inside tables that lose their structure when pasted, and anything in drawings or scanned images. It reads pasted text only, not PDFs or Word files, and it doesn't compare the spec with your datasheets.
Which standards does it recognise?
Common valve, pump and instrument standards including API 6D, 6A, 598, 607, 610, 622, 624 and 682, ASME B16.5, B16.10, B16.25, B16.34, B31.3 and Section VIII, ISO 15848-1, ISO 5208, EN 10204 certificate types, NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156, PED, ATEX and IEC 60534, plus ASTM material grades. It also picks up an edition or year written next to the standard.
What do the flags mean?
They mark requirements that usually cost money or time in a tender: 3.2 certificates and third-party or witness inspection, hold and witness points, NACE or sour service, fire-safe, fugitive emissions, PMI, hydrotest or pneumatic tests, special coatings, "no deviation" language, "or equal" or approved-vendor clauses, and documents to submit.
Can I export the list?
Yes. Download a CSV, or an Excel workbook with the requirement list plus a sheet laid out like our technical deviation list template, with blank columns for your offer and status.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up. OdysseyGPT's paid product does the full review against your datasheets, with citations.
Where can I learn more about deviation lists?
Want every requirement checked against your datasheets, with citations? OdysseyGPT does the full review, from $999/month.
